Stock Your Pantry!

If you are looking for a simple list of healthy food we keep in our pantry, fridge and freezer, you’re in the right place! We’ll share some of our favorite items we like to have on hand to keep you stocked and ensure your kitchen is full of healthy options for you and your family!

We’ve also got an awesome grocery guide HERE but rest assured, these Pantry, Fridge and Freezer guides have the basics you need!

If you’re looking for specifics on baking, we do have a baking guide HERE. The details you see below are the general things I always make sure I have on hand. It’s an easy way to make sure you have something in your pantry, fridge or freezer that will make delicious meals, snacks and desserts to have on hand.

Stock Your Pantry!

Our pantry is stocked full of delicious low carb ingredients and foods that fuel our day. We find a lot of these items at big box stores like Costco, Sam’s club or Amazon. Don’t have one nearby? They often ship and it’s still a great deal! Otherwise save money by looking for sales.

*Almond Flour - The vast majority of our recipes use almond flour. It’s the perfect replacement for gluten/wheat flour and we can buy it for around $12 for a 3lb bag. Other common alternatives are coconut flour or lupin flour. Check out our blog post on Keto / Low Carb flours.

*Keto Sweeteners - while we call this “Keto sweetener” we really mean a low glycemic sweetener. In week 2 we’ll talk about the effects of carbs and sugar on insulin (and your metabolism). One of the easy ways to reduce the sugar in our diet is to replace it with a low glycemic or keto friendly sweetener. There are 4 main sweeteners.

Erythritol, Monk Fruit, Allulose and Stevia.

We do have a blog post detailing each. You can check that out here. A monk fruit erythritol like this Whole Earth blend is one of the most popular. This blend (maybe not the brand, but the blend of sweeteners) is available in most chain grocery stores!

*Chocolate Chips - adding a little chocolate to your baking or other desserts makes it taste more like “normal” and you can do that with keto friendly / low carb chocolate! There are some great brands like ChocZero (use discount code KETODAD), Lily’s and even options at places like Costco and Sam’s. No keto brands near you? Check the nutrition lable - a dark chocolate chip usually has less sugar than a milk chocolate.

*Coconut and Avocado Oil - There are lots of healthy oils you can cook and bake with. Coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, even butter! You want to AVOID canola oil and vegetable oil. They’re definitely not supportive of your new healthy lifestyle! Check out these simple tips to cooking and baking with oils!

*Jerky - Buying a low carb / low sugar jerky is easier than you think! Here area few tips. Skips the sweetened ones (teriyaki, honey, Jack Daniels) and go for the plain option. They’re just as good and they’re a healthy, high protein and low carb choice! Chomps is a delicious option and you’ll find many others at your local grocery store. We don’t eat a lot of jerky, but it’s one of those easy things you can have in your pantry or take camping or on vacation!

*Nuts - One of the easiest snacks to have around… but also easy to over consume! So keep on eye on this crunchy snack. Walnuts, pecans and brazil nuts come in at the lowest carb count per 1/4 cup. Macadamia nuts, almonds and peanuts are more toward the middle. Limit your Cashews and pistachios as they have the most carbs! Keep in mind, this is the carb count per quarter cup. The calorie count varies quite a bit. For example, 1/4 cup of macadamia nuts has 240 calories. The same amount of almonds has 160 calories.

In general, we suggest you take just a handful of nuts and put them in a bowl. Eat them one at a time and by the end you’ll feel full!

*Granola - Granola is the perfect breakfast, snack or even a quick lunch! However, we’re not talking about your typical granola. We mean one made with nuts and seeds. NOT oats!

Make your own granola! It’s so easy! Use our simple recipe .

We buy this NuTrail Cinnamon Pecan from Sam’s Club or the Blueberry version from Costco (they have lots of flavors on Amazon!) or this Seven Sunday’s brand from Sam’s Club. Like many brands, they have some Keto options and some not - so check the nutrition label!
